Will light therapy prove to be an effective treatment for TBI?

On Behalf of | Nov 16, 2020 | Uncategorized |

A traumatic brain injury can reshape your life. While some victims are able to fully recover, many of them are left with life-long damage. In a lot of instances, this leaves victims with physical, cognitive, and emotional limitations, as well as physical and emotional pain and suffering. As devastating as those ramifications can be, not all hope is lost for traumatic brain injury victims. This is because medical advances continue to provide promising results for potential future treatments.

Light therapy may be used in future treatment

There are a lot of traumatic brain injury treatments being researched today. One of them involves light therapy. In a recent study, researchers found that near-infrared, low-level light can penetrate the skull to a certain extent and reach the brain. Although only about 3% of that light reaches brain tissue, it can penetrate deep into the brain. This could be important, as evidence suggests that light therapy could slow or stop some brain cell death, minimize inflammation, and increase blood flow to affected brain tissue. These benefits could lead to some level of healing as it pertains to traumatic brain injuries.

There’s still a lot of work to be done to determine just how effective light therapy can be for brain injury sufferers, but what is important to recognize is that these kinds of advancements are occurring on a regular basis. If you or a loved one suffers from a brain injury, then this reality should provide you with hope.

Seek help in the meantime

As hopeful as these advances are, we realize that you or your loved one need more immediate relief. While a traumatic brain injury can’t be healed overnight, there are some things that can be done to hopefully make life a little easier. One of those things is pursuing a personal injury lawsuit against the individual who caused the brain injury in question. If you’d like to learn more about what one of these lawsuits can do for you or your loved one, then consider reaching out to an attorney of your choosing.
